Midway gave the WrestleGames.Net Community a chance to get a few key questions answered in this latest Interview with Producer of TNA Impact Mark Allen. Unfortunately Midway remained slightly guarded though we were assured that more revealing information of the game will released to us next month!
1. Let’s start off with the most popular question; can you confirm the full roster for us? If so can you list all the wrestlers? If not when will you announce the full TNA Impact roster?
Mark Allen : No full roster yet, we can confirm Abyss, Kurt Angle, Christian Cage, Jeff Jarrett, Booker T, Samoa Joe, AJ Styles, Rhino, Scott Steiner and Sting. A complete roster will be available closer to the game's launch.
2. Will there be some sort of ‘Legends’ in the game or special unlockable wrestlers?
Mark Allen : Yes we do have some special unlockable characters in our game. Right now we are keeping those close to our chest, but we’ll maybe give hint as to what they are at a later date. TNA has great wrestlers and you can be assured that the fan favorites are well covered in our roster.
3. The TNA Knockouts are becoming a highly popular part of TNA, not just because of their looks but their in ring abilities also. Will the TNA Knockouts be featured in the game? Will they be playable?
Mark Allen : We have worked with Christy Hemme during the making of this game. She’s a great person and brings a lot of dynamism to what she does. She is featured in the game, so you will get to meet her in her digital form. Right now the game does not feature any of the Knockouts in the ring. Maybe we’ll see them in the next release though.
4. TNA Impact is said to include a very unique story mode can you tell us a little bit about this “Story Mode”? Will it involve decision making? Voice Over’s? How long will it go for; 1 year, 2 years?
Mark Allen : I’ll be honest; we’re being a little guarded right now about the story because we will be going into greater detail about it at a press event soon. What I will say is that the story is shows the high lights of a wrestlers career as well as the worst possible moments. The story will take you around the world and will feature some hardcore wrestling
politics that would even make a politician look wimpy!
5. Can you confirm how many match types will be in the game and what they will be?
Mark Allen : We have a good number of match types, and because we are lucky to be working with the TNA license we can do some match types that don’t exist outside of TNA. We have all the bread and butter standard matches as well as weapons matches, Ultimate-X and some other interesting special rules matches.
6. We know from previous interviews and press releases that the “Ultimate X” match type will be in the game. Can you give us an idea on how this will work in terms of gameplay?
Mark Allen : Ultimate-X is actually a very strategic match to play, and it plays a lot like real life. There are two ropes 15 feet above the ring strung out to form an ‘X’. Where they intersect is the prize that has to be untied and released. Everything that you can normally do in the ring, you can still do, however the real aim is to get onto the ropes and work your way to the middle to untie the prize. But it’s not as easy as it sounds. Your opponent will be trying to knock you down and doing everything he can to stop you getting to the middle. We'll be unveiling lot more information on Ultimate X next month.
7. Weapons have been confirmed in the game. Can you give us a list of various weapons that will be featured and how will we have access to them during a match? (Under the ring? Ala Smackdown vs Raw)
Mark Allen : We feature two-handed weapons like chairs. You can do a lot of damage with a chair! They are only available in weapon matches. We are still working on the placement of the weapons. They may be available under the ring, but we may also scatter a few around the ring – for easy access of course!
8. It was said that gameplay was your main focus. Can you share with us how the in ring fighting will work? What are the controls and how do they impact on the gameplay?
Mark Allen : That is correct. Let’s be honest, what happens in the ring, is the game. It has been a long time since wrestling games have felt solid and responsive to play. It has been a conscious effort throughout the games development to keep this as our primary goal. We brought in some heavy hitter designers - Sal Divita and Mark Turmel, a combined total of
over 30 years of industry experience. To achieve this we have attacked this from several different fronts. For example, TNA runs at sixty frames a second, so when the player hits a button, he or she is instantly rewarded with a move in the game.
9. How do you perform a finishing maneuver? Are you able to store finishers? If so how many can you store? Are there any special effects when performing a finisher?
Mark Allen : There are some awesome finishing moves in the game. Unleashing these on your opponent can be devastating. They are one of my favorite parts of the game. To do a finisher you have to fill your IMPACT bar. Once it is on fire, you press a series of buttons to do a combo and then destroy your opponent.
10. We have only seen little gameplay footage and we would like to know if every wrestler will have their own unique signature moves and finishers? Will they have unique fighting styles? Will default wrestlers be editable in terms of their move-set?
Mark Allen : Every wrestler has moves unique to them including their finisher. I know the wrestling fans will have fun playing their favorite wrestlers and pulling these off. We also have fighting styles and the created wrestlers start with one of these styles.
11. Will there be any backstage areas or fighting in the crowd?
Mark Allen : In this version we will not have fighting in the crowd. It’s a great feature and we will look at this and may other features for the next version of the game.
12. As with any wrestling game the ‘Create-A-Wrestler’ Mode is a major feature. Could you share with us some details about the TNA Impact Create-A-Wrestler mode? Will there be a layer system, enabling us to create highly detailed creations? Will existing wrestler attire be available for us to use? Are we able to make female wrestlers? Will we be able to make multiple attires for our wrestlers? Will the Created Wrestlers Sweat/Bleed?
Mark Allen : Our create a player system literally gives thousands of options for how your wrestler will look. We have very customized system and its great fun trying to create yourself and your friends. You can even create your enemies and beat them into a pulp! Lots of fun. We have decals and tattoo as well as a very large wardrobe of outfits that can be mixed and matched. You can also adjust the way you look as well.
13. Will there be a demo for the Xbox 360 and or Playstation 3? If so when will it be available?
Mark Allen : Yes there will be a demo and we can announce more details about this nearer the game’s launch.
14. Finally the most important questions of them all when is TNA Impact coming out? It was said that TNA Impact was due out spring, is this still likely to go to plan? Can you confirm a solid release date and where it will be released? (USA,UK,AUS)
Mark Allen : We will be out in the Summer.
On behalf of the WrestleGames.Net community we would like to Thank Midway and Mark Allen for taking time out of their busy schedule to shed some light on TNA Impact, unfortunately not all questions were answered though we are very appreciative!
