August 13, 2008 - It's been a while since we saw "The Fallen Angel" Chris Daniels in TNA. Obviously, we wanted to find out what Chris has been up to, where he's been wrestling, what he's eaten lately that tastes great, all that good stuff.
Unfortunately, the interview got a little uncomfortable when we asked Chris the harder questions.
IGN: Alright Chris Daniels -- the people want to know. What have you been up to since your departure from TNA?
Chris Daniels: Well, I've been taking time with my family ever since I got fired. I took that as an opportunity to heal some injuries. I've also been doing a lot of stuff overseas in Japan, I've been to Germany a couple times…I try and keep in touch with the TNA people, to see if the doors open up again. A lot of my friends still wrestle here, so I keep tabs on the product and try and give them tips. Just…life. Life in general is what I've been doing.
IGN: Do the guys give you the unwanted ex-girlfriend vibe when you call them?
Chris Daniels: It wasn't like I was fired because I got drunk and accosted a hotel employee…I got fired because I picked the briefcase that said you're fired. It's not hard feelings…I wish I hadn't gotten that briefcase, but I did.
IGN: In hindsight, do you wish Midway had produced a briefcase selection video game?
Chris Daniels: Maybe. Maybe. Or, if I'd just gotten the extra life briefcase…it would not have affected me.
IGN: Ideally, what were you hoping for when you opened up that briefcase?
Chris Daniels: An extra life. Maybe a rose petal so I could shoot fire. Right now, the only game I'm playing is Lego Indiana Jones, so I'd like the shovel or the wrench so I could fix the car. I'm not as much of a gamer as 90% of this company…I have a family. My best friends just gave me the 360 for Christmas, and my wife gave me the Wii, so this is the first time I've had updated gaming systems. I have a bunch of games, but the Indiana Jones game is the first one I went out and purchased myself and have made an effort to play. I got Spiderman and my wife bought Shrek III for my kids, so I've dabbled with a little bit of stuff.
But can he dance?
IGN: Are you going to play TNA Impact with your kids when it comes out?
Chris Daniels: Oh yeah. They watch the show because some of my best friends, like Uncle AJ or Uncle Joe, are still on the show. The fact that I'm in the game and they're gonna get to play daddy, that will be pretty cool.
IGN: If they want to play as you in the game, who are you going to play as?
Chris Daniels: Ooh. That's a good one. Why would I want anyone to beat me? Do I take a dive? Probably Jay Lethal because I enjoy beating Jay Lethal up, and if my kids could beat up Jay Lethal as me, I have no problem getting beat up. So take that Jay Lethal!
He's an arch-nemesis, he knows that. I should've been X-Division champ.
IGN: I actually saw you on an ECW show once upon a time against Rhino. The ECW games were considered two of the worst wrestling games of all-time. Does it make you feel good that you weren't in those games?
Chris Daniels: Well, I felt bad that I wasn't included on their roster for very long, but I'm not sweating not being in the video game if it was that bad. Fortunately, the TNA game's going to be absolutely tremendous. I will say this, though -- I'm not owed any money by ECW. They paid me in full!
IGN: You've seen yourself in the game. What was that feeling like?
Chris Daniels: It's one of those watershed moments for a pro wrestler -- I've made it! The first time I felt that way for this company was when the action figures came out. The idea that I'm on this video game….all the hard work we put in is worth it.
